Depressing Day To Be A New York Giants Fan
I’m a Giants fan. Yep, I’m depressed.
After watching DeSean Jackson take Matt Dodge’s horrific punt to the house for a game-winning touchdown, I sat in stunned silence for a good hour, wondering what the hell I’d just witnessed.
I’m 98% sure that was the worst regular season loss in Giants history. Consider that a win put them in the driver’s seat for a first-round bye, while the Giants will instead be fighting for their playoff lives. They led 31-10 with 8 minutes left. Even worse, there was a growing confidence that this team could actually beat Mike Vick.
I didn’t watch another minute of football after this debacle ended, fearing I might have to think about the game or see the highlights again.
Now, I figure it’s probably easier to talk about this whole thing, rather than stewing quietly while thinking up ways to make the NFL, get on the field and punch out DeSean. And while the shock will eventually pass, I don’t know if the Giants will be able to recover.
Will they wilt if handed a big lead at Green Bay next week? And from a fan perspective, what lead will feel safe? 45-3 should do it, but nothing less.
As for the scapegoat, there are too many to choose. Matt Dodge, Tom Coughlin and the special teams unit all come to mind, but after a collapse of epic proportions, there is always plenty of blame to go around.
Whether a Giants fan, Eagles fan or other, nobody’s forgetting this one for a long, long time. Here’s the final play:
